IC Information
Canon: Genshin Impact
Character: Furina
Canon point: Post 2.x, pre 4.0

Canon intensity: While not a horror setting, Genshin has plenty of creepy and unsettling background lore, side content and Implications; I would not call it family friendly but nor would I call it particularly intense on the general. The artstyle, aesthetics and graphics are all very colourful and it strays far away from realistic violence or gore.

World information: Teyvat is a fantasy world with a low amount of tech within it. People wielding weapons or exhibiting control over one of seven elements is a common occurrence; truly 'supernatural' happenings are less common. There are seven 'gods' that hold dominion over each element, known as Archons, empowered by a higher power known as Celestia.

Character biofacts: ~500 chronologically, mid-20s physically, human

About the character:

History: Five hundred years prior to canon, in the wake of a Calamity, a human girl named Furina opens her eyes before a mirror; and there she sees reflected a self that is not herself. Her reflection, dubbed 'Mirror-Me,' explains that she is the god Focalors--the second Hydro Archon, having taken up the Throne in the wake of her predecessors death--and that the nation she stands to rule (Fontaine) faces a grievous future in the form of a prophecy that will come to pass: that all of Fontaine will one day be drowned, swallowed whole by the sea, with only the Hydro Archon alone left alive, weeping on her throne.

Focalors explains that she has devised a means to defy the prophecy, but it will only work should Furina agree to play a part that will bring her much misery. With barely any hesitation, weighing her own pain against the lives of all the peoples of Fontaine, Furina agrees to play her part--masquerading as the Hydro Archon while in truth being nothing more than a powerless human, cursed with immortality. Never being able to slip or let anyone know that she was not, in truth, Focalors--no more the God of Justice than a pigeon flying overhead.

She throws herself wholly into the act, becoming the beloved Archon both in court and on the stage, all the while trying to find answers and her own way to stop the prophecy as she struggles more and more to continue on; the weight of her years bearing down on her. Focalors did not lie--the pain this role has brought her is beyond measure, beyond words. But she continues on, for these are her people and this is her love.

And in the meanwhile, as she dances across all stages she must call her own, she seeks answers of her own as to a way the prophecy might be forestalled. To her people, she is both beloved and capricious; in keeping up the act that she is a god, she acts as she believes a god would. The airs are tiring, but they are a part of her she is unsure how to live without; after so long, she has all but become her mask. She does not weep for it, though, except for on those sleepless nights where she can drown her sobs in her pillows. Because she knows her duty. And as much as her people love her, she loves them. This is the crucible she has devoted her life to, and she will not break under the weight of it.

And now, 500 years have passed...

Personality: Furina, aware of the way the pages turn--of the sand ever running down from the timer--awaits the arrival of the Traveler, and the completion of the prophecy--or one final magnificent and glorious trial to end all trials, long promised by Focalors as the end to her duty--in fear, in grief, and in hope.

Furina presents with assurance and confidence--one could almost consider her quite egotistical. It never really comes across as mean; simply a matter of course. She is, of course, used to being on top of a world that is familiar to her, though: when the foundations of it are shaken, so too does she stumble as she tries to find new ground. She can generally pick herself back up again and pull on the mask with swiftness, but it's in those moments of uncertainty the the greatest cracks show.

She is aloof, and distant by what she feels is necessity. For gods do not lower themselves, and so neither must she--nor must she let anyone get close enough to figure out her secret. Or close enough that she may, one day, risk that greatest sin of all: confiding in them.

Because there is nothing else more important to Furina than the completion of her duty: to see Fontaine saved. She will do whatever it takes; a reminder of that duty will galvanize her like nothing else. Even should it involve walking into certain death, she will do it--not without fear, not without hesitation, but she will do it. On this front, there is nothing that could make her break...no matter how much she might want to, sometimes.

The consequences of wearing such a mask for not just her entire life, but for such a long life are innumerable. Furina has grown used to certain airs and comforts that she does struggle to live without, though she would try her best to adjust simply as to not show overt weakness. That's too human, after all.

Her mood can be somewhat mercurial; while it is part of her role as Focalors, much like those airs, they have simply become a part of her. She is quick to temper, but equally as quick to calm. She may be scathing one instant and soothing the next; she is in fact very self aware, and is not out to make enemies. Especially not in places where the weight of being the Hydro Archon is simply not enough to protect her.

There is an almost-childlike innocence to Furina, in how she loves sweets and cute things and dreams of friends and fairy tales. Equally, there is a jadedness to her, in how she is quite often pessimistic and has seen so much of the worst humanity has to offer, in her time prosecuting for Fontaine. For the most part, she tries not to let either of these aspects of her personality show too much to people she doesn't know--which is almost everyone.

While she is capable of keeping her mask up at almost all times, the times when it falters the most are not simply when she is knocked off course, but when she is struck directly at her greatest insecurities: those of course being the truth of her nature, and her role in the prophecy of Fontaine. Nothing scares Furina more than failure--absolutely and literally nothing. Death and torture would be preferable. To be called a fraud or uncaring--especially since she cannot proclaim the truth in her defense--is what frightens and hurts her most deeply. And when she is frightened...while her first instinct is to freeze, she generally ends up lashing out in (verbal) anger. It's bluster, of course, but it's bluster with five centuries of practice behind it.

She is closest in her own canon to Neuvillette, and pretty much nobody else. Her life is not one that has lent itself well to friendships, and even with him she remains as distant as she must, for the sake of her secret.

Abilities: None whatsoever! Beyond the longevity her curse gives her, Furina is entirely and completely an ordinary human

Noteworthy items: Hat! She also carries several sealed, non perishable snacks on her at all times, tucked away amongst pockets hidden by ruffles on her clothing. (These snacks are, of course, limited by their very nature.)

Mixed gender room ok?: Furina would get a panic attack at the thought of sharing a room in general, I think, so no.

Player content notes/squicks: Moths

Anything else: Nope!

IC PERMISSIONS:

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: if you touch Furina, she will cry. She is not used to nor feels safe being touched. Go for it should you so desire, but know that if she doesn't see it coming in time the result likely won't be pleasant :D
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: much like physical affection, this is something Furina does not desire. Given her canon point and the fact that she is entirely defenseless, while I am not against Furina getting thrown into a tussle, I would want to discuss it first.
RELATIONSHIPS: Furina could use some friends! She is not open to anything romantic, except to a handful of potentially her canon castmates, which would need to be discussed.
PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFO: While Furina herself possesses no powers, a key part of her character is the fact that she has spent 500 years successfully playing as a god, and I think it weakens her character if people can just sense that she is simply human. So while she cannot direct it, in this case, the curse that made her immortal also made her unreadable to characters who can normally sense this sort of thing or read minds.
MISC. CHARACTER INFO: Practiced liar and actress who defaults to masking as her state of being. Much like her being caught out as human, most people probably wouldn't be able to catch her as lying because of how long she's been doing it. Willing to discuss exceptions to the casual rule.
TRIGGERS: Anything related to the prophecy of Fontaine or suggestions that she's a fraud.

OOC PERMISSIONS:

go wild
THREADHOPPING: go nuts
FOURTHWALLING: please reach out to discuss first
